The National Loaf

Introducing The Bread Source National Loaf Scheme.

As bakers, we are committed to our social responsibility to ensure that good food is available to all members of our community. We have set up the Bread Source National loaf scheme, baking a delicious, nutritious wholemeal loaf available for just £1 to anyone in need, or completely free if requested. No questions asked.

What is the National Loaf –

Developed by the Federation of Bakers in 1942 during the Second World War, the wholemeal loaf was part of the Homefront effort to keep the country fed during rationing. The Bread Source National Loaf is a great tasting, slowing rising, highly nutritious loaf made using only 100% stoneground wholemeal flour, sea salt, water and yeast. This loaf doesn’t just taste great, but will sustain you throughout the day.
